1. What ministry outcomes are we building for?
A building project isn’t about square footage—it’s about mission. Are you creating space for discipleship? A better environment for worship? Room for kids and youth to grow?
- When your “why” is clear, your design team can align the building to support those outcomes.
- Without clarity, you risk designing a facility that looks great but doesn’t serve your ministry vision.
2. How will technology serve those outcomes long-term?
Audio, video, and lighting (AVL) systems are more than equipment—they’re ministry tools.
- Will your sound system make the sermon clear for every listener?
- Can your video infrastructure grow with online ministry in five years?
- Will lighting enhance both in-person worship and broadcast quality?
Too often, AVL is pushed to the end of the design process and treated like furniture shopping. By then, it’s too late to make good infrastructure decisions without major costs.
3. Which project delivery model protects our vision best?
Your choice of project delivery method (Design-Bid-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Design-Build, etc.) determines how well your vision survives through construction. Each model has pros and cons:
- Some give you control but require heavy owner involvement.
- Others streamline costs but risk putting technology in the “value engineering” crosshairs.
Bringing in an AVL consultant early helps ensure your ministry’s voice is protected no matter which delivery model you choose.
